We all know our health is one of our prime concerns in our lives. But we also know we don't really want to think about it if we don't have to. Becoming a patient means something has gone wrong and we visit a health care professional to try to fix it. This takes time out of our day, takes money out of our pockets and often doesn't provide us with a satisfactory solution.

Our lives would be much more satisfying if we didn't even have to think about our health in the first place. This is a goal that we can strive for, but until we reach that point of not having to think about our health, we need to think about it enough so we can reach that goal.

A healthy lifestyle usually includes getting adequate amounts of sustaining nutrition, adequate amounts of exercise, the right amount of sleep, mental stimulation and stress levels we can tolerate without going out of our minds.

So how do we get these things to a point where we don't have to think about them on a daily basis? If we can find foods that are both nutritious and can be prepared so they taste good and we look forward to eating them is a first step. Doing activities that naturally make us move in healthy ways is a step toward getting appropriate and adequate exercise. Continuing to learn new things each day and meeting with friends frequently can keep us mentally sharp and keep depression away. Knowing that when stressful situations arise we can deal with them as soon as possible then move on will help maintain our stress levels in a healthy range.

None of these things come easily or quickly. We do have to think about them in the beginning to get them established as our normal lifestyle. But if we can achieve that goal, we can live a healthy life without having to think about our health constantly.

Our health should be under our control and not dictated to us by our pain level or how many doctors we have to see during the month. If you need help, look for health care professionals who put your health first over your illnesses and who are more concerned about you than your symptoms.
